Slower Hands: The July Destiny Errata
Cards have changed, and we all are wondering what effect it will have on the meta, if any. Lets dive into the changes and what I think it will change, and what I hope it will change.
Errata:
Fast Hands - Now has "Yellow Character Only" as part of its text box.
Ammo Belt - Now only works on Weapon upgrades
These changes were aimed at getting rid of some nasty combos. Mainly Poe/Maz getting many sources of free dice resolution, and decks increasing their health by 20+ with Second Chance and Ammo Belt. Honestly I really like these changes. I understand the frustration that Poe or Maz didn't see any changes themselves, but right now I like the subtle nature of these changes.
I think overall this evened up the pool of what can be considered tournament viable. Less decks will be punished by pushing a control heavy mulligan and having Poe/Maz drop Fast Hands as their first action. Decks like Vader/Raider took a hit, yet I think they are now in line with more hero decks like Han/Rey and Luke/(Rey/Snap/Maz). I have already seen people shifting over to decks like Han/Rey and a few other archetypes that sat just outside the range of tournament ready. I also made some changes to my Luke/Rey deck as I felt it could slow down a little and required less all in strategies to win outright.
I think the Ammo Belt change was long overdue from both a flavor and playability standpoint. The fact that hero mill and a few other decks relied on increasing their healthpool by 20 or more to win games shows that there needs to be more card support for control currently. In the long run this was a necessary change as it was a barrier to what could be designed without breaking decks to becoming immortal attrition.
Overall I feel these changes are great for the game. They are light handed before the next set comes out to stir the meta up and hopefully have some less repetitive powerful decks show up in the mix. I think Poe/Maz is still an amazing deck, and may need some changes in the future. I want to see how the rest of Store Championship season and the GenCon Nationals go though before any more changes are made.
